Convention 2012 - Les Moore Challenge

We have already received a number of enquiries from clubs keen to make the most of the available time between now and the convention for the building of their entry for the Les Moore Challenge. In choosing what we have, we hope we have struck a good balance between the engineering skills that will be required and some of the fun and excitement that new projects like this can produce, and for as wide a range of members within your club, junior & senior, as possible.

WMEC Les Moore Challenge 2012

Construction of a rail vehicle either 7.25”or 5” gauge, propelled through the wheels by an engine using compressed air provided from a standard 1.5 litre soft drink bottle.

The pipe work must include a Schrader valve reasonably close to the bottle, to allow WMEC to provide compressed air to the bottle up to a maximum of 100psi.

Minimum of four wheels on the rails.

A starting force will be allowed from a stationary ‘pusher’ standing immediately behind the entry one metre behind the start line.

Entries will be judged on the greatest distance travelled on a moderately level, straight section of the WMEC track.

No additions to the bottle, and no heating of the air will be allowed.
